The idea of finishing early is to avoid needing to stay in Mammoth over Labor Day weekend and catch ESTA back to my car in Lone Pine on Friday morning instead. I do like the higher elevations. Upper Kern, Upper Basin, and the area around Muir Pass have been my favorite areas of the Sierra so far. I also like to avoid the crowds as much as my skills and time allow. While I enjoy meeting some people while on trail, meeting 30 or 40 a day on the JMT is not something I enjoy. It kind of defeats the purpose of backpacking IMO. Thanks for the advice.

Darwin Bench is one of my favorite spots in the range. My $.02.
