Hoover Wilderness / Leavitt Meadow up the West Walker River (Semi-loop)
(≈28 miles

July 14-17
Day 1: Leavitt Meadows trailhead to Lane Lake (4 miles)
Day 2: Lane Lake to crossing of Walker River where forks to Cascade Falls. (8 miles)
Day 3: Walker River campsite to Lane Lake via Long Lake (12 miles)
Day 4: Lane Lake to trailhead (4 miles)

This was a MeetUp hike. with me and 2 others. The weather was nice, and while we had been warned of heavy mosquito activity, we only found that in a few marshy places, but were able to avoid it where we camped. There were also some annoying biting flies.

This hike went from about 7,100' to 8'000'. Trails were well maintained through first open sage meadow and then mostly pine forest. ON the way in we stayed along the West Walker River. And the back we did a semi-loop going by Long Lake and Fremont Lake. Fremont Lake was especially nice. Lane Lake was very swimmable--and while it gets a far amount of day hikers it did not feel overly populated. The trail is also heavily used by horse trains briging people and supplies into the Lakes (as well as there droppings) which can be annoying.

Overall a pleasant hike through nice lake territory. Would be nice area to explore further and farther.
