pass between Mt. Mills and Ruby Peak?

Post by Sierra Miguel »

I'm wondering if this is class 2. I'd like to pass into Fourth Recess from the south end of Little Lakes Valley.

Hi Miguel,

Have not done that pass, but have climbed to the top of the ridge from Mono Pass (photo purposes) further north, between FRL and Snow Lakes, it had very steep scree, and extremely steep scree/talus on the western side 2/3, or higher if one did not take care in choosing the safest route.
Here is someone's route into 4th Recess from the Mono Pass area, similar to my route, but mine concluded at the top. If steep, loose, class 2/3 or higher is not in your comfort zone, then would advise against this route.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Thanks. Tom Grundy has some photos up of that.

I think I'll plan on the trail this time. This photo and this one seem to say "scree" right where I'd ascend.

I don't know about that exact location but I had planned to cross that ridge in 2012 and did not. I however judged it to be possible.

Read those while trying to find some beta on your proposed crossing, also saw Rogue's photo's, and that whole ridge line looks like a rock slide waiting to happen, if you were to dislodge the wrong (right) rock. :(
