In this era getting a permit is very convenient as can be done online and then printed out after watching a short video then taking a short quiz.

Is this required if backcountry in SEKI?

National parks consider their permits as being fire permits, all in one. But you'll need one outside the parks, in national forest and national forest wilderness.
