Emigrant Lake Outlet Dam

Post by mahjzha »

Quick question for the community! I am planning a hike in the Emigrant Wilderness mid-July, and based on the pictures that I have seen, it appears that it is not possible to cross the outlet dam at Emigrant Lake (unless the water is very low?). Are there any places to cross down canyon from the dam? I would be coming from the Frazier Lakes area and wanted to cross over and head up to Buck Lakes without back tracking and going around the east end of Emigrant Lake. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, there are many places to cross down stream of the damn. It always depends on the water flow, and like any stream crossing, can be extremely dangerous. There are wider areas, and narrower areas down stream. I imagine this year , the stream will be flowing pretty good in July.
