Traveling in Ionian Basin

Can I get into the Ionian Basin area below Mt Solomons from Black Giant Pass if I get down to lake 11828 and follow the outlet stream west down to just below Mt Solomons?

Also, I'm interested in camping at the very south end of this lake, 11828, as a basecamp for climbing Charybdis and Mt. Mcduffie. Any beta you guys got on this lake would be great...I'm wondering if there are any cliffs on the western or southern shores? Is the outlet stream difficult to cross?

Yes, there are camp spots on the eastern, northern, and western end of Lake 11828 as you get towards the base of Charybdis, also good camp spots at Chasm Lakes northern end, Lake 11592 northeastern end, and some scattered all around the basin, but these are not big sites, best suited for bivvies. No crossing difficulties. Stay away from the southeastern side of obvious reasons, cliffs.

Here is Ionian Pass, which you could use as an alternate route to climb McDuffie: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13575

There is some excellent camping (by Ionian Basin standards) directly below Black Giant Pass by Lake 11,828. I camped there this summer with 2 other people. We managed to secure 3 separate spots which was an achievement for Ionian.

The photo is looking up towards Ionian Pass which exits Ionian Basin and heads towards the Black Divide.

All the beginning shots in this album show the way down you want to take. It's pretty much all small loose talus.

There are a few places to camp near the outlet but they are small. Mostly a place to plan to lay out.
