Thunder and Lightning Lake is most uninspiring. Very desolate, no shoreline other than talus, and nothing significant to look at. Plus, the approach from 7th Lake is a "pants pass" in reverse -- totally loose sandy scree. You will hate yourself for going up this from the south. It is very fun coming down, tho
However, if you do get to the top of the "pants pass" between the N. Fork drainage and the Baker Lakes drainage, the view to the west from the Inconsolables divide is wondrous. It has a magnificent view of the Bishop Creek trail drainage and Sierra Crest.

Re: Planning for 2015
Actually I was planning to take the long way around by going back down and taking the old road or whatever is there now above Second Falls campground to Baker Creek and up from there.

This is a long, hot, dry, sandy slog. Start early and take LOTS of water.RoguePhotonic wrote:Actually I was planning to take the long way around by going back down and taking the old road or whatever is there now above Second Falls campground to Baker Creek and up from there.
