High Sierra Topix

I would not say that lake above is not on a route- anyone who does Roper's High Route goes right above it. I camped at the pond that is above it. Unfortunately that afternoon it stormed like crazy. The photo below was the next morning and I had a long ways to go so did not drop to the lake. The High Route is pretty demanding without side trips and I did not have fishing gear anyway.

I would like to go back and camp at the lake and at the same time go on to Tehipite Valley, a place that has been on my "to do " list forever. Maybe some day.

My list would be so long that there's not much point, but it does seem silly that I've never hiked over Piute Pass into Humphreys Basin, seeing as how I've been there 3 times on skis.

Interesting thread. I have been to "most" of the other answers....and have duplicates of some of you.

Pioneer Basin
Yosemite to Tahoe Trail
Seven Gables
Bear Basin (not for lack of trying...turned back 3 times by lightning storms when I was oh so close!)
Tehipite Valley
Mt Dana

Given how many people responded with Tehipite Valley, maybe that's where we should hold next year's HST get-together.

Tehipite Valley with Tehipite Tom. That sounds like a great place for a gathering and a great time.

Hard to believe it's been 15 years since that get-together at Cedar Grove. HST or not, you and I are definitely overdue for a reunion.

When I saw that lake from the High Route, I called it "The Lake At The Edge of Forever".
There was a few lakelets in the next basin over I wished I spent more time investigating. As someone else mentioned, on that route, you have to plan extra time for side trips.

"I can't believe I haven't been to..." The Humphrys Basin area. Just about the only trailed area I have not been to in the Sierra.
