Advice needed: American Lake, Deso Wilderness

Planning on going into the Aloha Lk area after Labor day to American Lake first night, but given the snow pack wondering, will there be ANY water in American , if so any depth to it? Are there nicer lakes nearby? (No ferry then, so that distance/elev. gain is about what we usually do (we're kind of old!)).
