I'm told they are being removed from quite a few of the Alpine lakes and they are not posting a list anywhere as to which lakes they are doing it to. If fishing is your thing it is advisable to check with the forest service about a lake before you hike all the way to it and find it void of trout. I had just happened to run across a blurb on the web about Matlock 3 days before our trip and were told when we picked up our permit that it was true along with the other two lakes nearby. They told us that Little Pot Hole, Gilbert, and Flower were being left alone though so we changed our plans to Flower so we could fish.

Being more of a fisherman than a backpacker I have read a lot of reports on the fishing forums about this subject. Many bias to both sides of the issue. Most agree that the main cause for the reduction in frogs is a fungus they get and pesticides, neither of which they can do much of anything about. The state feels they must do something and killing the fish is the best they can come up with :retard:

HEY! Everybody- great photos. I haven't posted mine yet, but they are basically the same, except I didn't take that many good ones! I'll get to posting eventually....
Great trip!

This is my first attempt at using Webshots! These are the first day's pics. Hopefully not too many repeats!

For those that are interested, there's an excellent forum in "The Campfire" area discussing the frog issue (Scientist: Frog's decline threatens Sierra ecology)
