Trail Conditions, Carson Pass to Round Top Mt.

Post by jimandluba »

Today I hiked south from Carson Pass to Winnemucca Lake, then to Round Top Lake, then up the side of Round Top to about 9,500 feet or so - just below the base of the rocky summit section. There was only one short snow section on the trail (c. 30 feet) to Round Top Lake, and on my route up Roundtop I was able to avoid all but one stretch of snow, about 100 feet long. I wore trail running shoes and my feet did not get wet. The wind kept the mosquitos away. The wildflowers were less impressive than past years, but the snow on the mountains around and above Winnemucca Lake and Round Top Lake made for very scenic views and great photos. - Jim
