PCT Conditions, old US 40 to Anderson Peak?

Post by jimandluba »

This Saturday I hope to hike the Pacific Crest Trail south from old US 40 near Sugar Bowl to near Anderson Peak, then return. I lucked out on this route on 6/21/13, with only one patch of snow on the trail and lots of wildflowers. Do any of you know what I can expect on this route on 6/7/14? - Jim

My son was up there a week ago, had a hard time following the trail due to lots of snow. Will be less now but I would still be prepared for plenty.

Thanks for the report, Paul. Perhaps I will delay my visit there by a week. Even if the route is largely free of snow on Saturday, I would not expect there to be many wildflowers, based on the conditions your son experienced around May 28.
