Very nice Schmalz, conditions look very nice. Would you have a photo looking back at
Mt. Alice from the west? No colors at sunset, were their to many clouds?

Regarding sunset colors, yeah, they never really blew up. There was some color over Owens Valley on the second night that was barely visible from my camp, but not visible from the lake. Photo conditions were still very nice though so no complaints.

Love that area - we're going for a series of (longish) day hikes during the 4th of July weekend: Cottonwood, Big Pine & Kearsarge lakes.

What an awesome trail dog! And she's carrying her own supplies - excellent. Hiking with a dog (off leash - as long as they're are under voice control) is one of life's great pleasures. I love how they like to get ahead and scout everything out to make sure it's OK. Of course, they get pooped out just like humans and crash heavy after dinner.

Our Boston terrier used to be able to do around 4-5 miles/day when he was younger, but now that he's nearing 8 years old, he's slowing down to around 2-. He's very athletic and still in great shape, but sadly we're going to have to leave him home on this particular trip.

Is this a good thread for photos of (pseudo) trail dogs? Here's some shots from over the years:

I have no problem having my thread get derailed for dog pics.

I should also note that while Callie does walk in front of me quite a bit, about half of those shots are staged in the sense that she is walking obediently behind me, I frame the shot and get the exposure set, and then have her walk in front of me and snap the photo at the ideal time. She has become very well trained at being a trail dog, and she is very used to my whole photography process.
