Trail pass conditions.
Anyone have any info on the snow conditions over trail pass, out of horse shoe meadows? My son and I are heading out Thursday and hopefully will avoid too much snow.

I can't imagine you'll run into much snow. I was on Kern Peak yesterday (backpacked in from Blackrock TH to the south) and I never stepped on snow all the way. There are some pics of that area I took - they may give you an idea: http://kathywing.smugmug.com/California ... ck-TH-524/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Just got off the phone with lone pine ranger station and they said no snow on the pass at all, water levels are that of October, the kern may stop flowing this year!

Re: Trail pass conditions.
There was plenty of water along my route from Blackrock Trailhead to Kern Peak last weekend, but the flow is low in a lot of places. I doubt if all the water sources will dry up over the summer, but many of them will and it will be a long dry slog when they do. Go early to the southern part of the Sierra if you are going into that area this year.
