Mineral King Netcam Moved

Being a fan of Mineral King, I was happy to see that the webcam was moved to observe a more scenic part of the area. The camera was previously looking at an area with no mountain views (still great info about snow levels though). It has now been relocated and looks out across Timber Gap. It should be fun to watch as winter arrives.

What a great place to aim the camera! That usually unused corral and shack is where I always see an incredible and comical number of marmots running about. Maybe we can get to see one of those wily smiling critters. ...David

Hi everyone,
I agree that this MK webcam image is a great upgrade; compliments to the hosts!
And, for Mr. Kurt, and anyone else curious about webcam links scattered around the Sierras, I can highly recommend Steve's sierravisions.com. It has a large number of webcam links that have become a daily habit......mostly just to daydream, but they sure help for keeping track of weather, vegetation changes, snow levels, smoke plumes, etc

I just noticed that the Yosemite webcam website says the Tioga Pass cam is down and "can't be repaired until the road opens." ... obviously a very old message. Anybody have inside information about when/whether this wonderful cam is going to come back up?

I love the new location. I just wonder if it's going to last given the exposure. Earlier this year the web cam lasted until May. It was discouraging not to be able to watch the snow melt. If the cam holds up, however, it will be great to watch the snow pile up. Given how the weather is supposed to turn unseasonably soon next week, it may be sooner than we think.

I just spoke with the people at UCSD meteorology, and they said they were working on the Tioga Pass webcam essentially at this very moment. They said they had a lot of work to do, though, and they implied that the webcam was not at the very top of their list, so we can keep our fingers crossed...
