Anyone here willing to prepare a kmz of the trail to add to the HST Map? Because some of it is either vague or not maintained I'm also interested in hearing thoughts on how to build into that layer's meta data some sort of disclaimer.

I created a KMZ for the TST based on the preliminary map created by Jeff Hester at SoCal Hiker.

The link to his map is below. The first version on his website does not include the detailed route like the switchbacks etc but the second one one looks much more accurate:

I traced the trail using the NGS Topo overlay in Google Earth to come up with the attached KMZ. According to what I traced the total mileage is about 212 miles (although the details under the 'properties' for KMZ say 238 miles). I do not have the guidebook so I can only go by what was on the SoCal Hiker map. Several people on the JMT Facebook page had some luck ordering the book recently from Great West Books but it was out of stock when I tried to order it last Friday.

This looks like a fun hike, and probably easy to put in some long mileage days, but there are several options along the way that would be hard to ignore (instead of following the 'official' trail).
